What is that you are wearing? Pants? Leg warmers? Pajamas? The terms for the common yet ambiguous outfit accompaniment, leggings, are endless.
Some people love them but to others they are the bane of their style existence. “Really, it depends on how a girl looks in them. Personally, I only wear leggings as pajamas,” says freshman business major Sara Cygler.
Others, like freshman architecture major Jonathan Margulis, find the leggings-as-pants ensemble appealing. “As long as they’re not jeggings, I think they are hot. It’s a really attractive look,” he said.
Freshman boys are not the only ones who favor the controversial trend. After polling a sample of students on campus, Unwind! found, not surprisingly, that both males and females are highly disputed on whether it is okay to treat leggings as pants. However, the slight majority voted in favor.
Is the leggings-as-pants look a Do or Don’t?
Do – 55.6 percent
Don’t – 44.4 percent
Though some did not support the look, they still sport leggings in other ways. The most popular ways students wear leggings are:
Under dresses or skirts – 43.5 percent
As pants – 37 percent
As workout clothing or pajamas – 8.7 percent
Other – 10.9 percent
The general sentiment towards the best way to wear leggings is in no way clearly defined, and people will continue to both enjoy and object the leggings-as-pants trend.
