Dayglow b.l.u. Captivates Students

Students throughout College Park are counting down to the night of beats, love and unity, otherwise known as DAYGLOW’s B.L.U. Tour at RFK Stadium in the District September 30.

Dubbed on its website as the “world’s largest paint party,” DAYGLOW has been a sensation for college students since its debut in Florida in 2006.  Other than featuring well-known DJs, dayglowtour.com describes performances including “soaring aerial acts, stilt-walkers, contortion acts, fire shows, and cannons to deliver the famous ‘Paint Blast.’”

“I was literally covered in paint, dripping,” said sophomore public relations major Julia Marcus, who attended DAYGLOW last year.  “A guy came out on stage with this huge metal costume and lasers started shooting everywhere. It was a crazy experience.”

Sophomore letters and sciences major Jillian Lansey, agreed that DAYGLOW is a wild experience.

“It was pretty intense,” she said.  “You get covered in paint so wear white clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, and make sure you wear glowsticks!”

Other than the paint and the insane costumes, DAYGLOW is all about the beats, the vibes and the music.  This tour’s line-up includes George Acosta, David Solano, The Devil from Acapulco and many other popular DJs in the house music world.

“The Devil brought the heavens to ground level,” said senior sociology and American studies major Nick Pierce.

Because DAYGLOW is such a unique and otherworldly experience, there is an expensive price tag to pay in order to be a part of what Pierce calls a “counter culture.”  Tickets for the show range from $50 to $75, and although some students would pay for a ticket in a heartbeat, Pierce and Lansey both agree that the price is keeping them from going again this year.

Although some students do not find the show worth the cost, the students who did purchase a ticket expect to be immersed in an unforgettable night.  RFK Stadium will be pulsing with thousands of music fans coming together, as the site describes as, “under one color: blu.”
