Love music? Long to see your favorite artists live in concert? Well, making that dream a reality just became a lot more within reach. Literally.
A new concert venue has opened about 20 minutes from the University of Maryland. Recently added to the town of Silver Spring last month is the latest Fillmore venue, which holds 2,000 people and offers shows almost every day.
Nine-time Grammy award-winner, Mary J. Blige was the venue’s first performer. Other big-name musicians such as J. Cole, Joe Jonas, The Trey Anastasio Band, and Mac Miller are set to play there in the coming weeks.
Neurobiology and physiology major, Beth Schofield seemed positive about the Fillmore’s presence. “If the Fillmore has popular bands and the shows are inexpensive, I’d go because it’s closer than D.C.,” she said
Freshman letters and science major, Dan Lemer didn’t appear too enthusiastic about the venue. “I’m a Phish fan so I’d consider seeing Trey Anastasio but I’m usually not a big concert goer,” Lemer said.
Jimmy Miller, a sophomore computer science and philosophy major, shared a smiliar sentiment. “I can’t say I am particularly excited because I don’t go to concerts often,” he said. “It truly doesn’t affect me,” said Miller.
Although Maryland students have mixed opinions of the Fillmore, it seems that only time will determine how this new venue will fare.
